2026 New Arrival: CMC Mercedes-Benz 300 SL W198 Premium Car Model Collection Unveiled
The birth of a legendary sports car often happens by chance. The story of the Mercedes-Benz 300 SL is exactly such a tale. It was originally built purely as a racing car for Mercedes-Benz to make a comeback to motorsports.
Launched in 1952, the 300 SL (W194) race car achieved phenomenal success on the track, proving its outstanding performance. At that time, American importer Max Hoffman played a decisive role. He had long advised Mercedes-Benz to launch two sizes of two-seater sports cars, which eventually led to the official mass production of the W 121 B II (190 SL) and W198 (300 SL) models. Both models made their debut at the 1954 New York International Auto Show.
Despite the tremendous popularity of the gull-wing 300 SL, Hoffman was not satisfied. Driven by his advocacy, the comfort-focused convertible version 300 SL (W198 II) was released in 1957. Production ended in 1963, with a total of 1,858 units manufactured. Later, with the launch of the 230 SL (Pagode, W113), Mercedes-Benz no longer divided the SL lineup into large and small versions, ushering in a brand-new era for the series.
The 300 SL was not only hailed as the fastest production sports car of its time, but also brought numerous groundbreaking innovations to the automotive industry. It was the first model equipped with brake assist for drum brakes, later upgraded to four-wheel disc brakes as standard. It pioneered gasoline direct injection technology in mass-produced passenger cars, while its dry-sump lubrication system was directly inherited from racing technology. Mercedes-Benz also offered seat belts as an optional accessory for the first time on its passenger vehicles.
M-282 CMC Mercedes-Benz 300 SL Roadster

This 1957 300 SL Roadster belongs to the early production batch. There is no door lock fitted on the passenger side. It was initially delivered to Madrid, Spain, with the original owner’s information kept confidential — a common arrangement for high-profile clients back then.
Around the 1970s, the car returned to Germany and was collected by a private owner for many years, until it received a complete restoration in 2000.
Our CMC model perfectly replicates the car’s appearance after the German restoration, with full 3D scanning completed in December 2024.
This classic vintage car has never been left idle. The current owner is a racing enthusiast and drives it regularly in spirited conditions. It frequently appears in various historic racing events and always attracts huge attention from spectators. The mileage recorder, map reading lamp and retrofitted fire extinguisher on the car all vividly prove that it never stops running with the passage of time.
The CMC model is displayed with its doors open to showcase the exquisite interior, decorated with abundant solid chrome parts and premium leather upholstery. The side windows can be raised and lowered manually via a crank just like the real vehicle. The hubcaps are also detachable by hand without any tools. Same as the original car, the front seats can be folded forward to reveal extra storage space at the rear. The sun visors are rotatable, and the large ashtray on the dashboard can be opened — a common design in an era when in-car smoking was prevalent.
Have you noticed? The door handles of the model can be rotated to open the doors exactly the same way as the real classic car.
M-283 CMC Mercedes-Benz 300 SL Removable Hardtop Coupe

This is a 300 SL Roadster fitted with a factory optional removable hardtop. The hardtop can turn the open roadster into a genuine fixed-roof coupe once installed. Faithful to the real car, this model allows you to mount the streamlined hardtop or replace it with a soft-top cover. The removed hardtop can be stored on the matching dedicated bracket included with the model.
It features a distinctive door opening design: simply rotate the flush embedded door handle to open the door. This futuristic design was ahead of its time in the 1950s and has become popular again in recent years.
The model restores plenty of authentic details. Both front seats can be folded forward; the dashboard ashtray is openable and the sun visors are adjustable. Notably, the hubcaps can be removed easily by hand without tools. You can freely install the hardtop or soft-top cover according to your preference.
This model is finished in medium blue metallic with Mercedes-Benz factory paint code 396. Only 6 original cars were painted in this rare color, accounting for merely 0.3% of the total production. Back then, customers could choose from up to 99 body color options, resulting in rich and diverse color combinations. Statistics show that 40 cars were painted with exclusive one-off colors during production, meaning each unique color was used only once in history.
M-284 CMC Mercedes-Benz 300 SL Hardtop Coupe

This 300 SL Roadster comes with a removable hardtop, a special optional accessory for the Roadster. The hardtop transforms the soft-top convertible into an elegant hardtop coupe. Just like the real vehicle, the model can be fitted with the perfectly contoured hardtop or replaced with a soft-top compartment cover. The detached hardtop can be placed on the dedicated storage bracket.
Rotate the flush embedded door handle to open the door. This futuristic design from the 1950s has made a comeback in modern automotive design.
The two front seats of the model can be folded forward as the real car; the dashboard ashtray is openable and sun visors are adjustable. The hubcaps can also be detached easily by hand with no tools required. You can switch freely between hardtop and soft-top cover on this model.
This model adopts Mercedes-Benz factory paint code 050 white, the most popular color for the 300 SL. Nearly one in five original cars was white, not including snow white, pearl white, ivory and light ivory shades. There are also extremely rare colors: 40 original cars were painted with exclusive unique colors, with only one car produced for each shade.
M-285 CMC Mercedes-Benz 300 SL Soft-Top Roadster

This model is another masterpiece from CMC. It is the third CMC model equipped with a fully functional soft-top, which can be unfolded and folded freely just like the real car. The soft-top linkage mechanism is highly restored: to open the soft-top, first lift the roof compartment cover, pull out the soft-top and fix it on the windshield frame, close the compartment cover, then pull down the soft-top and hook it to the edge of the cover.
We are proud of this work that combines interactive playability and sophisticated mechanical craftsmanship, perfectly recreating the iconic soft-top feature of the 300 SL Roadster.
The model also features foldable seats, an openable dashboard ashtray and hand-removable hubcaps. Rotate the flush embedded door handle to open the door. This futuristic design from the 1950s is trending once again nowadays.
The glossy black paintwork contrasts sharply with luxurious chrome trim, accentuating the elegant body lines and endowing the model with noble and classy temperament.
M-293 CMC Mercedes-Benz 300 SL Roadster

This classic 300 SL features black paint matched with a full black interior. At that time, black was not as mainstream as today, ranking only fifth in popularity with less than 9% of original cars choosing this color. Even so, the full black matching with black leather interior presents a timeless and elegant classic style.
This model is crafted with highly restored details: functional crank-operated side windows, an openable large dashboard ashtray, foldable front seats and tool-free detachable hubcaps.
Simply rotate the flush embedded door handle to open the door. This avant-garde design from the 1950s has regained popularity in modern times.
The triple-black color scheme brings a low-key and mysterious charm, while the delicate chrome decorations shine like stars in the dark, highlighting the unique elegance of this classic sports car.
M-294 CMC Mercedes-Benz 300 SL Roadster

This is another stunning masterpiece from CMC. It marks the third time CMC has developed a fully functional soft-top model, which can be folded and unfolded exactly like the real vintage car. The opening structure of the soft-top compartment is perfectly restored: unfold the soft-top by opening the compartment cover, securing the soft-top to the windshield frame, closing the cover, then hooking the rear soft-top onto the compartment edge.
We take great pride in this piece with intricate mechanical structure and fun interactive experience, perfectly presenting the iconic personality of the 300 SL convertible.
It is equipped with foldable seats, an openable dashboard ashtray and easily removable hubcaps. Rotate the flush embedded door handle to open the door. This futuristic design from the 1950s is popular once again.
Painted in an elegant muted green, the model exudes extraordinary classic charm.
M-295 CMC Mercedes-Benz 300 SL Rally Version

This 300 SL Rally version is not defined by conventional elegance. Even after nearly 70 years, it still retains vigorous vitality and uninhibited character. Built purely for driving enthusiasts and ultimate driving pleasure, it is free from cumbersome road registration regulations.
It was originally a standard dark blue production car, later repainted in deep brown. It is fitted with oversized auxiliary rally spotlights and a massive roll cage with a raw motorsport style.
Beneath the hood lies premium racing pedigree. The side exhaust pipes are understated in appearance, yet they deliver a breathtaking engine roar once ignited — the subtle visual design is instantly replaced by shocking acoustic performance.
This Rallye 300 SL has attended renowned historic racing events worldwide, including the Ennstal Classic in Styria Austria, Adelaide Classic in Australia, and Colorado Grand Prix in the United States, always showcasing its timeless dynamic charm.
This rally car is also fitted with detachable hubcaps, though drivers rarely removed them back in that era.
